German News Shows Star Trek Logo for SEAL Team 6 Emblem by Mistake

article written by:

By the time news travels to certain corners of the globe it has been transformed like in a giant game of telephone. Certain facts get left out. New details confuse existing facts. It can all around be a hairy situation. With huge news like the killing of Osama Bin Laden breaking and all the news outlets wanting a piece of the action, there was bound to be mistakes. One German news organization definitely got their facts wrong when they showed what they thought was the emblem for the Navy SEAL team responsible for giving that major a-hole his boarding pass to hell. Instead of showing the actual Team 6 emblem… they showed an insignia from “Star Trek.”

Apparently while covering the Bin Laden death, Channel N24  in Germany meant to show the team logo for SEAL Team 6… and instead they showed a fan made insignia for the Maquis an anti-Cardassian rebel group in the show “Star Trek: Deep Space 9.” The poor dumb newscaster even commented on the image stating “They (SEAL Team 6) don’t have a skull in there for nothing.” Hilariously, the skull in the emblem he was commenting on was that of a Klingon.

So this is distressing for several reasons. The most alarming thing about this news story is the fact that German’s lack the ability to decipher the difference between humans and Klingons. We are all in jeopardy if they decide that everybody else on the planet are Klingons. It’s fun to think about what kind of mistakes they are making on a regular basis. Instead of the normal weather background… maybe they’ve accidentally shown footage of The Death Star.

Obviously it is a rarity when the news organizations of the world make a mistake… but this one is pretty weird. Wait a minute… the news screws up all the time!
