OkCupid’s Blind Date App is a Terrible Idea
OkCupid has come out with a new app called “Crazy Blind Date” which claims that “dating has never been so easy.” It’s also never been so desperate.
“Crazy Blind Date is the easiest and fastest way to go on dates. You just tell us when and where you’d like to go, and we set you up. With just a few clicks, you could have dates every night of the week.”
…With strange-looking creatures who are even more desperate than you.
OkCupid is mostly about inflating your ego (for girls, at least) and finding someone you’re physically attracted to. The percentage of messages that are answered solely because they’re “interesting” despite a person’s perceived “ugliness” is zero.
There are probably less than ten people on OkCupid who have signed up genuinely looking for new friends, unless you consider boner-touching “just friendly,” in which case that description would apply to everyone.
And besides, even people who want friends want to know what they look like before meeting them. Or at least that they have a little tiny something in common (besides the desperation factor).
