Five Shockingly Racist Cartoon Moments (VIDEOS)
Cartoons helped guide us through our childhood. They made us laugh. They helped us learn. This wonderful medium has brought millions of smiles to children. It has opened a world of imagination and given kids the gift of a cornucopia of happiness.
Oh yeah, and some douchebag cartoonists filled them with shocking racism.
The Adventures of Little Black Sambo
So, the title of this particular cartoon kicks off the racism with a bang..right in the title. No time for hidden subtext, or subtle messages to the subconscious mind. NOPE, just balls to the wall racism. I wonder what the meeting was like where they discussed this episode…bet they were a fun group of forward thinking gentlemen…with great teeth and a positive attitude.
Not The Flintstones!
Yup, the Flintstones. Not only were they careless about the stereotyping of cave people (which would really piss off the Geico caveman,) but they were also very insensitive to the Japanese…a people who ironically enough have made some of the baddest ass cartoons of all time! Goku would kick the shit out of Fred Flintstone AND his little bitch Barney.
Bugs Bunny…We’re Asking You “What up with the racism, doc?” No, Seriously?
Even the precocious Bugs Bunny was a poster boy for ignorant hate. Looney Tunes as a brand has a long history of overt racism in their cartoons. They apparently no longer show this clip when this episode airs…but that didn’t happen until recently. WTF?
Popeye Hatin On The Japs
Popeye wasn’t above eatin’ some spinach and spreadin’ some hatred. In this one Popeye gets pissed off at some Japanese fellows who are portrayed in a very racist manner. Not cool Popeye!
Uncle Tom’s Cabin Cartoon and Other Horrible Racist Cartoon Clips
This clip has some repeats like the Bugs Bunny one..but it is filled to the brim with ignorance, hatred, AND stereotypes. The triple threat of the inbred dumb-shit cartoonist arsenal.
The lesson to learn here, is that you would be better off letting your child watch Jersey Shore than classic cartoons.

You know, some of these cartoons are sixty years old (the Popeye cartoon was made during WWII) and except for the Flinstones cartoon, ran in theaters before movies. We only have many of them because they ran on UHF TV in the 1950s. They are now antiques, the clips shown are never run on TV, and these clips are on YouTube because they are "shocking." No one will remember that there was a Jersey Shore show in ten years, but we'll still be running the "cleaner" classic cartoons somewhere. Why? Because they'll be in the public domain.
And don't forget the lady from most of the Tom & Jerry cartoons! Which, incidentally, has been re-dubbed into a less, mammy-esque voice and put back on the air.
