‘Fight Club,’ written by Chuck Palahniuk, was adapted into a film after Brad Pitt read the book. He, David Fincher and Edward Norton came together and made what should have been a box office success.
Edward Norton was coming off of highly praised performances in ‘People Vs. Larry Flynt’ and ‘American History X.’ Fincher had just come off of critically acclaimed efforts through ‘The Game’ and ‘Seven.’
Besides looking like a hotass bastard, Pitt had ‘Legends Of The Fall,’ ‘Interview With A Vampire’ and ’12 Monkeys’ simmering on his resume. Not to mention the fact that he’d had box office success with Fincher through ‘Seven.’
Worldwide, ‘Fight Club’ made its money back. But in America it was a failure. So much for popular convention…
That does not take away from the fact that it is now a cult favorite with references to it found in various realms of popular society…especially so with the internet.
