It’s always a sad time when an author passes on. His friends, his family, and above all his fans come together and mourn the passing of a person who enlightened and entertained them.
Then the fans want to know when the next one is coming out. And usually there’s somebody there who will oblige them, especially if it’s a science fiction author. Here are five great authors whose series kept going on without them.

One thing that never fails; most TV shows never get a proper resolution. Really, it’s just nature of the medium. But that usually means that a show that has a chance to be pretty awesome never gets a chance to fly. And nowhere is this more true than SF shows, which always hurt because there’s not enough of the good stuff in the first place. It is always pretty worrisome when you lose a pet, or even a small child. These days, it’s quite common to report your pet as missing to the internet (like on craigslist, or local community forums) in order to get your beloved pup or kitten back.
Before the internet was a pet locating resource, people had to put up posters on telephone poles in their respective neighborhoods. Thankfully, the tradition has not died!

Works of art are lost all the time, usually because human beings act like the morons above. There’s nothing we, as a species, really seem to like better than gathering up the sum of all our knowledge and using it as combination toilet paper and kindling. We burn classic film prints, we lose the only copy of priceless artifacts, and we misclassify paintings… a lot can happen. Fortunately, despite our ability to destroy virtually everything, we’re also really good and turning that stuff back up.
